How to Clear the Pipes

I have recently renewed my commitment to writing every morning for a dedicated period of time.

This is great, as I have previously written a few things worth reading.

Quite a few, in fact.

And lately — as in — since that commitment, I have written mostly scattered and unusable drivel.

This does not scare me, because I have been here before and survived.

Writers often refer to this as ‘clearing the pipes’ which we have quite literally done in the last month as our complex attended to some plumbing concerns.

We were directed to open the bathtub faucet first, as it has the largest opening, and allows the most potentially troublesome contents to pass without clogging.

Then, once the water was clear, we were directed to open sinks to complete the process.

We were notified that we might notice some bubbles or some residual rust for a few days, as the gunk worked it’s way out of the system.

It is like this in writing as well.

At least, in my experience.

Except there is a modicum of discernment required.

What are the things that often gunk me up?

What debris is floating around that might injure the process as I try to allow the words to flow?

What is vexing me in this moment?
